Job Description

Security Officer 3Security Officer 3 will perform their duties, in a manner to provide a safe and secure environment for learning to take place. They will, to their utmost ability, keep the peace, and protect all members of the campus community. They will provide efficient and courteous service to everyone who works, learns, or visits the campus.NOTE: The below lists are not ranked in order of importance.Essential FunctionsProtect students, staff, and visitors, up to and including the possibility of an armed intruder or individual intent on harm in the building, or on grounds.Keep the peacePatrol interior of buildings, and exterior grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry/trespass, disturbancesControl access to all school facilities and grounds at entry pointsLock, unlock, and check doors within the facilityCheck student hall passes, and keep hallways clear during class time to foster a quiet, peaceful learning environmentMonitor cafeteria, assemblies, or events with large number of individuals in attendanceWrite reports and statements, submit behavior referrals as related to security and peace keeping dutiesUnderstand and abide by Security Department Rules and Regulations, as well as Board of Education policyUnderstand, and be able to implement, or assist in the implementation of the emergency planAssist with situations wherein students, staff, or officers are in danger, or the situations themselves are inherently dangerousAssist during emergency safety drills (Fire, Weather, Active Shooter)Keep the peace by stopping, intervening, or assisting when disturbances, fights, or distractions occur on school propertyUse of force in compliance with policyDirect traffic and monitor parking on school propertyAssist in medical emergenciesAssist safety services (Police and Fire)Provide security services at after school, or outside events and functions related to school activitiesChallenge and attempt to identify individuals suspected to be involved in criminal activity.Activate fire alarms in the event of a fire, and aid with extinguishingEffectively communicate and operate a two radioCall Police or Fire services to respond in an emergency. Be able to relay required informationOther Duties and ResponsibilitiesOfficers will place an emphasis on de escalation when safe, appropriate, and possible to do so.Officers will exhibit a positive, helpful, and customer service oriented demeanor.Officers may be subject to order in due to scheduling emergencies, and may be subject to work any time during a twenty four hour time period should it be deemed necessary.Officers will be required to work special events, and may be required to work on Holidays.Officers will be required to attend continuing education and training as designated by human resources and the security director to include, but not specifically be limited to:Public school works CPR/AED trainingDefensive tacticsIn service trainingsRange qualifications and trainingJob related training and classes held within the district, or at an off site locationOfficers will attnd all scheduled in service trainingsQualificationsHigh School Diploma or GEDValid Drivers LicenseValid OPOTA Private Security Certificate, OPOTA Corrections Certificate, orValid OPOTA Basic Peace officers Certificate (Police Officer) or equivalent.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesOfficers must possess the ability to clearly communicate verbally, in person, on the phone, or via two way radioOfficers must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of student contacts, reports, and investigatory informationOfficers must have the skill to work with children that is acceptable to the board of education, and community standardsOfficers must possess the ability to work in a team environment with other officers, administrators, and staffOfficers must have computer skill, and the ability to learn to operate computer software and operating systemsOfficers must have the ability to communicate clearly in writingOfficers must have the ability to patiently deal with childrenOfficers must have the ability to work unsupervisedEquipment OperatedTwo way radioTelephoneCamera SystemAlarmsComputerMetal DetectorComputer, Copy Machine, PrinterMotor VehicleAEDDigital CameraAdditional Working ConditionsOccasional exposure to blood, body fluids, tissueOccasional operation of a motor vehicle, in all types of weatherOccasional weekends, nights, or other variations of primary work scheduleOccasional lifting up to 20 poundsFrequent requirement to walk and stand, talk, hear, see, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, climb, balance, kneel, stoop, and runOccasional requirement to restrain or use physical forceOccasional requirement to work in excess of normally scheduled hoursOccasional requirement to work special eventsOccasional requirement to travel, daily, at night, or overnightOccasional requirement for repetitive hand motion, such as, but not limited to, computer operation, handwriting, directing traffic, etcRequired Testing Certificates Pre-Employment Physical O.P.O.T.C. certificate or equivalentClearances Fingerprint/Background ClearanceContinuing Educ./Training Officers will be required to attend continuing education and training as designated by human resources and the security director to include, but not specifically be limited to :Public School Works annually as directed by BOECPR/AED certificationSelf Defense/Pepper Spray RefresherIn service trainingsRange qualifications and trainingJob related training and classes held within the district, or at an off site locationOfficers will attnd all scheduled in service trainingsEvaluation Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions in the Board of Education policy regarding evaluation of support and staff personnel.Based on performance evaluations, or disciplinary action, performance improvement plan may be implemented to correct or improve performance.My Signature below indicates I have reviewed the contents of my job description, and that I am aware of the requirements of my position.________________________________ Signature Date Adoption date:
